FiftyOne Global Ecommerce Rebrands to Borderfree, Reinforces Mission to Break Down Barriers for U.S.

FiftyOne Global Ecommerce, the market leader in global ecommerce solutions for U.S. retailers, today announced it has rebranded as Borderfree in an effort to further emphasize the company’s ongoing mission to enable U.S. retailers to transact with consumers in every corner of the globe.

Just as FiftyOne has done since 1999, Borderfree will continue to provide a turnkey global ecommerce platform, breaking down the barriers often accompanied with global expansion, allowing U.S. retailers to deploy efficient, successful global ecommerce solutions. As Borderfree, the company has also taken a public position as advocate for the Trade Facilitation and Enforcement Reauthorization Act of 2013 (S. 662), which facilitates cost-free returns, encouraging American exports by making local businesses more competitive on a global scale.

“Identifying as Borderfree allows us to more directly communicate our vision and mission to create an entirely ‘border-free’ global ecommerce experience for consumers and retailers,” said Michael DeSimone, CEO, Borderfree. “We’ve been breaking down barriers in this industry for nearly 15 years, and continue to do so by supporting the Trade Facilitation and Enforcement Reauthorization Act of 2013 (S. 662) to help American businesses increase exports of their products and brands to shoppers around the world.”

In 2012 alone, FiftyOne incorporated 22 new currencies, added three new international shipping carriers, integrated three intuitive products into its platform to further simplify the ecommerce process, and partnered with 44 best-in-class retailers and providers. The company more than doubled its workforce over the past two years – from 60 employees in 2011 to 168 in 2013 – to support its comprehensive approach to ecommerce, which allows its U.S. retailer customers to engage with more than two billion consumers in 103 countries and territories and more than 60 currencies worldwide.

To support growing demand for global ecommerce expansion, Brian Dhatt has been appointed as the company’s new chief technology officer. Responsible for overseeing all tech innovations, Mr. Dhatt brings deep experience in consumer-facing applications to the Borderfree brand, with a career spanning 15 years, including key leadership roles at Gilt City and Jetsetter, two divisions of Gilt Groupe, Sugar, Inc. and BestBuy.com.

“Brian’s world-class track record of developing cutting edge technology and scaling it to the enterprise level is a tremendous addition to the Borderfree executive team,” said Michael DeSimone, CEO, Borderfree. “His deep experience in consumer applications and strong entrepreneurial spirit has helped launch several new ventures across his career and we look forward to continuing the innovation for our Borderfree clients.”

The Internet has created a way for shoppers around the world to buy products from America’s retailers that otherwise cannot be purchased in their country. Elements of the Trade Facilitation and Enforcement Reauthorization Act of 2013 (S. 662) make it easier and less expensive for U.S. businesses to export to overseas markets, enabling them to offer consumer-friendly terms like free shipping and free returns, which can increase retailers’ exports by more than 100 percent.
