September 16, 2016

Accelent, Inc. recently placed Mike Sommers as the new SVP, Product Management at ShopKeep.

ShopKeep, the cloud-based technology solution that transforms an iPad into a connected cash register and is used by more than 23,000 small businesses, today announced the appointment of Mike Sommers as the company’s new Senior Vice President of Product Management. Reporting to CEO Michael DeSimone, Sommers will lead expansion of the features and capabilities of ShopKeep’s point-of-sale system.

Sommer’s appointment reflects an increased focus on providing enhanced POS solutions for ShopKeep’s three largest verticals: retail, quick-service and full service restaurants. The company acquired Ambur, an iPad point of sale system designed specifically for restaurants, to provide a feature-rich solution specific to the restaurant industry and expand overall market share among independent merchants.

“Technology is taking huge strides in changing how independent companies operate and grow their business, ” said ShopKeep CEO and President, Michael DeSimone. “The collective ShopKeep team all has experience working in the businesses we serve, and Mike’s established background furthers ShopKeep’s mission to build a smarter, adaptable POS.”

Sommers has more than 21 years of experience working within the online software space. He started his career building ecommerce solutions for large brands like Continental Airlines and General Motors, then spent seven years at AOL where he developed local products and most recently was Vice President of Product Development for AOL Search. Sommers also led the development of online solutions for small business while Chief Product Officer at WeWork and as Senior Vice President of Product at Booker. Most recently, Sommers served as Senior Vice President of Product at Beatport, the leading online distributor of electronic music, where he led the company’s transition to a consumer-facing platform following its acquisition by SFX Entertainment.

“I was attracted by ShopKeep’s mission of helping small businesses grow by removing some of the headaches associated with even the most fundamental aspects of the day-to-day, like taking payments in exchange for goods and services,” said Sommers. “ShopKeep has been on the leading edge of payments technology since day one with a simple but powerful solution that is easy to get started with, and helps merchants quickly understand what’s working and what’s not with their business. Our customers entrust us with the most vital part of their business and as they grow, our intuitive and nimble product is behind them. We are dedicated to continually sharpening and broadening our features to meet to the diverse demands of our expanding SMB network.”
